Letter: ‘Story of the moment' does disservice to vets
Two thumbs down to the Appeal-Democrat for the cover story on 11-11-09.
What happened on the 11th month, on the 11th day and the 11th hour should have been of the utmost importance for our country and community to cover, and admire.
Instead, on Veterans Day the Appeal-Democrat chose to cover the “story of the moment” regarding our first Punjabi-American mayor.
This quite blatantly displays the Appeal-Democrat’s lack of appreciation, commitment, and loyalty to our armed forces and the freedom they have given to us.
Shame on the Appeal-Democrat for not giving the attention needed, and more importantly deserved to the men and women who pay, and have paid, the ultimate price for our safety, protection and freedom.
We should appreciate all soldiers risking their lives to protect ours, next time you see someone in uniform tell them “thank you.”

Editor’s note: The Appeal-Democrat provided substantial advance and next-day coverage of local Veterans Day observances, including front-page stories as well as videos.
