Green is headed to state fest

Sutter High freshman Ariel Green has qualified for the girls State Wrestling Meet next month in Fresno.


Green took third at the NorCal Western Regional over the weekend, losing just one match, and that to the top-ranked wrestler in the nation at 114 pounds.


The state meet is Feb. 3-4.


Five Blazers place


Lindhurst High's James Williams was second at 217 pounds at the Jason White Memorial Wrestling Tournament held in Olivehurst Saturday.


Williams was the only Blazer to reach the finals.


Other Blazers who placed were: Rosario Hernandez (162, 3rd); C.J. Leal (132, 4th); Jose Hernandez (121, 5th); and Daniel Lewis (147, 5th).


Sutter JV Invitational


The Huskies' Tony Perez, Jeremy Holt, Jake Orlando and Craig McVey each won his division at their own invitational at Sutter on Saturday.


Perez won at 105 pounds, while Holt took the title at 154. Orlando won the 191 class, and McVey was the heavyweight champion.


Sutter actually took the first three spots at heavyweight with Wesley Bishop second and Jacob Abbott third.


Other Sutter placers were: Rowdy Robinson (132, 2nd); Gage Nevarez (105, 3rd); Brandt Williamson (114, 3rd); Lane Patterson (121,3rd); Zack Prosser (147,3rd); Joe Keiser (173, 3rd); Brian Pearson (217, 3rd); Evan Scroggins (114, 4th); Nic Moreau (105, 5th); Steven Hines (114, 5th); and Brad Lebrue (137, 5th).
