Letter: Online comments about abortion protest were off-base
I appreciated the objective stance your reporter took in the Jan. 23 story "Pro-life group protests abortion ruling."
What was surprising was the online comments to the article where many of the pro-abortionists made attacking statements based on their subjective view.
These comments also reflected much about the misinformed and ill-informed re the abortion industry and Planned Parenthood as the largest abortion provider in the US. According to the Alan Guttmacher Institute and Americans United for Life:
• There are 1.3 million abortions each year in the US and 55 million in the last 40 years. These do not include chemical abortions conducted by Planned Parenthood.
• Less than 1 percent of these are for the life of the mother.
• Less than 1 1⁄2 percent are for reasons of incest or rape.
• The majority of abortions are performed on women who have already had two or more abortions.
Some of the neutral and positive comments were reflective of the consideration of — can there be choice without responsibility? And that rights do not exist in isolation, but rather they do relate to one's values.
Keep in mind that when life itself is subordinated to individual choice, it often leads to what is termed the "culture of death."
I wonder what the unborn child would choose. Note: The group on the sidewalks outside of the Planned Parenthood facility did hold signs while they silently said prayers.
