Military briefs: June 5, 2011

Hayden F. Flemming has been promoted to the rank of airman first class in the U.S. Air Force.

He is the son of Sarah A. and Freddie R. Flemming of Browns Valley.

Hayden Flemming, in the military for four years, is a bioenvironmental engineer assigned to the 628th Air Base Wing at Charleston Air Force Base, S.C.

Air Force Airman Edward L. Ownbey graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

The son of Edward and Elizabeth Ownbey of Olivehurst, he is a 2010 graduate of Lindhurst High School.

Air Force Airman 1st Class Charles M. Whitney graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

He is a 2007 graduate of Live Oak High School.

Air Force Reserve Airman 1st Class Richard R. Davis graduated from the Utilities Systems Apprentice Course at Sheppard Air Force Base, Wichita Falls, Texas.

A 2005 graduate of Marysville High School, he is regularly assigned to the 940th Civil Engineering Squadron based out of Beale Air Force Base.

John Michael Valdez, son of Shelly L. Wood of Marysville, has been promoted to the rank of corporal in the U.S. Army.

A 2005 graduate of Yuba City High School, he is a command group driver with three years of military service.

Army Pvt. David A.V. Wagnon graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

The son of Ronnie Wagnon of Yuba City and April McCarl of Pittsburg, he is a 2010 graduate of Pittsburg High School.
