Sacramento airport's busiest days are Thursday to Dec. 23

Sacramento International Airport is expecting its busiest days to be Dec. 20 to Dec. 23, when most of the holiday travel is condensed into just a few days, said Laurie Slothower, media officer for Sacramento County Airport System.

During the busy Christmas season, Slothower said it's "all hands on deck" at the airport. Extra operations officers and employees are used during at the peak of the season to help people get through security. She also recommends wrapping any gifts after the checkpoint to avoid having presents opened in line.

For the nation, Airlines for America estimates about 15 million people will fly between today and Jan. 6, according to AP.

Additionally, airlines will have fewer flights than last Christmas, but planes will be fuller.
