Letter: Are Democrats afraid?

Should a Canadian citizen be allowed to vote for the president of the United States? Should a Nevada resident be allowed to vote for the governor of California? Should a 17-year-old, who in appearance looks 20, be allowed to vote? Should votes from the graveyards of Illinois be counted?

According to Charles Scarfe (Jan. 18 letter to the editor), asking for proof of citizenship is considered Republican voter "suppression." Yet he doesn't mention the Democrats' attempt to suppress the absentee ballots of our military deployed overseas. Nor does he mention the Democrats attired in military fatigues in front of the polling stations to suppress the voters.

Does Mr. Scarfe scream "suppression" at the checkout when the clerk asks for identification as he attempts to buy his alcohol or tobacco or use his credit card?

Why is it that any attempt to eliminate voter fraud is immediately met with Democrats' screams of voter suppression?

Could it be that after 60 years of ruling Congress and bringing the country to the brink of economic collapse, the Democrats are afraid of having legitimate elections?
