Letter: Pet owner's plea: Don't dump animals
I read with sadness about the cat that was attacked in its own back yard. I know that this was a hard thing for the owners to see. However, as a pet owner, some things need to be brought to the attention of Yuba and Sutter county residents. It is becoming more and more of a problem each and every day for our local shelter, as well as Yuba County's, to deal with animals on the streets.
Residents are losing their homes due to foreclosures at an alarming rate, and many people are leaving dogs and cats behind at these homes to fend for themselves. This is a fact that our own shelter has seen way too much of this happening. People should at least show concern for their pets and try to find homes for them or take them to a shelter so they have some chance of adoption. Then the streets and alleys and parks, etc., would not have so many animals running loose.
It's against the law to dump animals or abandoned them. Hopefully, this practice will become less and less of a problem. We all need to be responsible for those animals that we cannot continue to take care of, and do the right thing. Bottom line: don't dump or abandon pets.
