YC annexation goes to vote

The annexation of 395 acres of Tierra Buena will go to voters after a commission acted Thursday to approve it subject to an election.

The Sutter County Local Agency Formation Commission unanimously approved the 395-acre Tatla-Walker Reorganization, which would make the area part of Yuba City.

Voters will get the final say. The resolution will be forwarded to the Sutter County Board of Supervisors to call for an election in which voters could confirm the annexation by a simple majority.

Previous commission meetings had been contentious, with public comment for and against the annexation; only three people attended Thursday's hearing.

There were no comments by the public or the commission, which quickly passed the resolution.

The next possible election date is June 6. The deadline to call for a March mail ballot was Feb. 3.

Protest signatures from 129 of the annexation area's 415 registered voters, 31 percent, prompted the request for an election.

Developers want to build on 30 acres off Elmer Avenue, which prompted the annexation. Yuba City officials increased the proposed annexation's size for more logical boundaries.
