Gridley

FFA awards night held Dec. 18

Members of the Gridley High School Future Farmers of America were honored during the club's Winter Awards Night held Dec. 18 on the school campus.

The event included Greenhand awards welcoming more than 50 first-year members and Chapter Degrees to more than 20 second-year members.

Club members have participated in various activities this year, including the annual sectional opening/closing FFA competition hosted by Colusa High School in November; the Shasta College Field Day Competition in October; and the 2012 Butte County Fair in August.

Chapter officers for the year are president Fraine Cox; vice president Shyann Waters; secretary Sandra Dreesmann; treasurer Kyle Duran; reporter Raina Wright; sentinel Hayden Shadd; and historian Mackenzie Naylor.

Olivehurst

Faivre receives master's degree

Aleece Ann Faivre of Olivehurst received a master's degree in healthcare leadership from Park University at a commencement ceremony on Dec. 15 in Independence, Mo.

A graduate of Valley Center High School, she was among about 145 students who received master's degrees from the university.

Park University is a private nonprofit institution based in Parkville, Mo.

Mid-Valley

Funds available for driver's training

Scholarships for driver's education courses are available for teenagers in Yuba, Sutter, Colusa and Butte counties, sponsored by the Yuba-Sutter Indo American Business Association.

Applications are available at YubaSutterIABA.org and are due by Tuesday.

Students must be ages 15 to 17 years old, have at least a 3.0 grade point average, provide a letter of recommendation and write an essay.

The association, composed of local small business owners, will award scholarships to four students per quarter. Students not selected can reapply the following quarter.

The completed applications should be mailed to 552 N. Palora Ave., Suite F, Yuba City, CA 95991.

Winners for the first quarter will be announced Jan. 15 at an awards dinner.
