Retired Teachers Association to celebrate

California Retired Teachers Association, Mt. Lassen, Division 9, of Glenn and Tehama Counties will be celebrating Retired Teachers Week, from Nov. 4-10, during which time the group will honor Jay Thiel, a retired teacher from Red Bluff High School.

He is the webmaster for the group and serves as a representative for CalRTA, Area II on its state Nominations and Elections committee.

Thiel volunteers 60 percent of his time conducting the Red Bluff Community Band.

Every other Tuesday, Thiel plays in a brass band in Redding called Rapture Brass. He also plays in the Weaverville Commnity Band, Shasta College Symphonic Band and on Sundays he plays his tuba in church.
