Yuba College men's basketball gets 10 seed for playoffs
Coach Cornelius unhappy with ranking
The Yuba College men's basketball team won the Bay Valley Conference, finished 21-7 overall and 15-1 in the conference.
On Monday, Yuba coach Doug Cornelius was told his team would be receiving a 10 seed to begin the NorCal playoffs.
"It was a frustrating day," he said. "We just got reamed."
The California Community College Athletic Association meeting was held in Concord, and 16 coaches and commissioners battled it out to nail down a bracket — with Yuba coming up on the short end of the stick.
The 49ers will travel to No. 7 Ohlone (20-8) in Fremont in the first round on Friday at 7 p.m.
"I was fighting for a seven seed and would have accepted an eight," Cornelius said. "And as things went along, I started to think we might have a real shot at a six seed.
"I went in so prepared, but I felt like everything I said went in through one ear and out the other. It was like they already had their minds made up."
Ohlone finished third in the West Coast-North Conference behind Foothill, the No. 3 seed in the tournament, and San Francisco, the No. 1 seed.
The winner of the Ohlone-Yuba game will likely travel to No. 2 Fresno City College.
