Letter: Democrats will overturn Prop. 13

I note the Democrats newly acquired supermajority in the Legislature. This means that Republicans are now in control of absolutely nothing. This enables the libs to reverse any existing measure they don't like that has a Republican footprint. This event for them is analogous to a drug addict being told that he will receive a lifetime of free drugs.

First, they will overturn Proposition 13, or find a way to circumvent it. They would love to get their grubby mitts into a ready pile of cash for more wasteful projects! The past 38 years, Proposition 13 provided homeowners some tax relief because the amount of yearly increases was restricted. Before Proposition 13, people were losing their homes because they couldn't pay their taxes. Does anyone remember those days? I do.

Next, they will forge ahead with the bullet train. This is a train that will have limited ridership but goes very fast to nowhere. The big spenders in Sacramento are all excited! The feds have given the state a down payment of $3 billion to get started. The state's big selling point is this boondoggle will provide thousands of new jobs over 20 years. They calculated the cost at $69 billion. Since this will be a state project, just triple the estimate. I say $200 billion will get it built. More wasteful spending.

So, Republicans, just sit back and relax. Your job will be to say, "Don't blame us, we don't have a vote."
