Dorothy S. Blackmore
Dorothy Smith Blackmore, 91, of Yuba City died Jan. 9, 2006, at Summerfield Senior Care Center in Yuba City.
Born in Willows, she was a Yuba-Sutter resident for one year, formerly living in Davis for 30 years and Belvedere.
She was a professor and mentor at Fielding Institute Graduate School in Santa Barbara and was employed by the State Department of Education in Sacramento. She also worked the Appeal-Democrat newspaper in Marysville.
She received a bachelor's degree at California State University, Chico; a master's degree in science for education at Dominican College in San Rafael; and a doctorate at the University of California, Berkeley.
She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Marysville.
Survivors include a daughter, Peggy Henwood of Marysville; a son, Bill Blackmore of Taos, N.M.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Lester Blackmore.
Services: A memorial service is at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Martin's Episcopal Church, 640 Hawthorn Lane, Davis. Rev. Barry Beisner will officiate. A private burial will be at Davis Cemetery.
