New lighting will save county money

More energy-efficient lighting will save both money and greenhouse gas emissions for Sutter County, which made the upgrades earlier this year for streetlights, parking-lot lights and interior building lights.

In total, the county replaced 430 interior lights and 1,265 lamps overall, along Highways 99 and 70 as well as inside county buildings for child support services, children and families commission, human services administration, and community services/planning.

The county made the upgrades through a $139,129 grant from the US Department of Energy.

According to the California Energy Commission, the more efficient lighting will help the county save $12,848 and reduce emissions by 21 tons annually.
