Three cheers letter: Free Little Library has been great success
In July, we placed a Little Free Library in our yard and filled it with books. My grandson and I built and installed the library after my wife saw an article on the news about the Little Free Library movement. I cannot tell you how much of a success this has been, and how often we find ourselves reloading it with books.
After being featured in the Appeal-Democrat, we received an outpouring of books from all around the area. One of the first to supply books was Dinah’s on D Street. In addition, Dinah’s extended an offer to supply us with additional books any time our supply was low.
Recently, Sandeep, with the Yuba County Library, contacted us with an offer to provide books that were soon to be discarded. Needless to say, we readily accepted the offer, and were greeted with six large boxes of books intended for our target audience of pre-teen and teen readers.
After processing them, we placed 132 books into the library. As with Dinah’s, Sandeep extended an offer for more books as needed. I am thrilled to say that about one-third of the books placed in the library on a Friday evening were quickly gone.
Since we installed this library, we have had tremendous success with providing books to all levels of readers, both young and old. One of the hardest things for people to understand is the books are free.
It is a wonderful feeling to watch people look through the library and take books. It is even more wonderful to have people like Dinah’s and Sandeep provide us books so our library will continue to make people happy and continue reading.
Thank you everyone for making our library a huge success.
