Burn permits will be needed from Monday

Burn permits will be required starting Monday, according to the Nevada-Yuba-Placer unit of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

The permits are good for small piles of vegetation 4 feet or less in diameter and may be used to burn only dry materials. Burn barrels to burn household waste are no longer allowed.

Permits are available at all CDF fire stations.

Burn guidelines are:

  • Keep the fire are least 10 feet from flammable materials and vegetation.

  • Do not burn on warm, windy days.

  • An adult must be present at all times.

  • Have a water supply and shovel ready at all times.

  • Make sure it is a burn day by calling 741-6299 in Yuba County.

“When burning, watch where the smoke goes and be courteous to neighbors and not smoke them out,” the CDF said.

“If a fire escapes your control, you may be held criminally and civilly responsible for all costs associated with the suppression of the fire and the damage that it caused,” the agency said.
