Yuba baseball tops Butte in 9th
Anthony Caretti scooted home on a fielding error in the bottom of the ninth inning and the Yuba College baseball team defeated Butte 6-5 on Friday at Appeal-Democrat Park.
The 49ers (6-4) took an early 1-0 lead into the fifth inning, before Butte scored three runs in the top half, another in the sixth and one more in the top of the ninth to tie things up — all the Roadrunners' runs were unearned.
Tim Catalino allowed only four hits, no walks and struck three batters over seven innings, while Taylor Cabral and Michael Beck each tossed one inning of relief.
Yuba put up two runs in the fifth and eighth innings.
Brandon Lockwood went 2 for 3 with two runs scored, Michael Frantz finished 2 for 3 and Dustin Macaluso went 2 for 5 with an RBI.
Christian Divelbiss and Ethan McGill also knocked in a one run each, while Peter Daley drove home two.
