What's happening in Stonyford: Turkey Shoot, Craft Fair today

You know you can go down to the rodeo grounds and enjoy this event even if you don't shoot. They have chairs set up for people to watch the shooting. There is a dice game for those who don't shoot. There is a raffle with several nice prizes: binoculars, and a quilt made by one of the volunteers. Lunch will be Babs' world-famous tri-tip sandwiches, hot-dogs and chili.

Shotgun sceet shooting starts at 9 a.m. because there are so many who want to shoot. Pistol, rifle, dice and lunch start at 11 a.m. Proceeds benefit the Bear Valley Indian Valley Fire Department. Please drop in and give it a try, if you haven't been there before.

Also this Saturday is the Craft Fair in Elk Creek. It's at the Grange in Elk Creek, and starts at 10 a.m. This is always a well-attended event. There's a sweatshirt lady who travels through and only sells at this one craft fair in our area. It's nice to see our neighbors.

The Cake Walk was last Saturday at the Stonyford Grange, and it was great fun. Thank you to all who baked cakes. We had over 20 cakes. There were some very cute costumes. And we had kids of all ages walking around the numbers trying to win a cake. One of my quilting friends said that she remembers taking her daughter to the Cake Walk when the daughter was little, about thirty-some years ago. This is one of our community's long-standing traditions. Thank you so much to all who brought cakes, and all who participated in the fun.

Tuesday Dinner at the Grange this next week will be pork roast, mashed potatoes and brown gravy, green beans and dessert. Wayne is helping to cook this week. Welcome Wayne. Watch for a great dessert. We almost always have cake and sugar-free Jello, but there may be a special homemade apple spice cake, or cinnamon rolls.

The museum has a display of vintage toys from now until the end of the year. I mentioned it in passing to Larry as we were driving through town, and we had to make a U-turn to get back to see it. They have an old Buddy L truck and a Lionel train set and much, much more on display. The cast iron is also still on display. Museum hours are 1-4 p.m. on the second and fourth Sundays. There is no charge, but there is a donation can on the desk.

There is a nice new gate at the Stonyford Cemetery. Jim Alloway built it. There is a drive-through section and a walk-through section. It's white, heavy duty and looks very nice. Take a look if you happen to be driving up Fouts Spring Road.

Hey, our main road into town is getting patched up. Lodoga Stonyford Road was very nicely rebuilt a few years ago, but has been starting to show some wear and tear. I'm glad to see it getting attention from the road repair crew.
