Letter: Kruger's column out of line

We the people of the world have no control over who our parents are, good or bad. We have no control over our neighbors, ethnicity, religion or their children. We Americans have no control over political affiliation of others. To each his own.

The statement of Republican Senate candidate Todd Akins in Missouri on "legitimate rape" as quoted in the Aug. 26 Appeal-Democrat column by Harold Kruger has to do with Akin's ignorance and lack of humanity, not his political affiliation.

Why does Kruger want to drag any other candidate for public office, Republican or Democrat, into Akins' inextricable morass of ugly ideas? Why did he single out Kim Vann, candidate 3rd Congressional District? Who does this "male" think he is to expect any female to respond to these ugly comments on rape? Whatever happened to impartial, fair and factual reporting? What about respect for those who have earned it as candidate Vann has earned respect?

I am ashamed of Harold Kruger and ashamed of the Appeal-Democrat for allowing this negative and misinformed trash to be printed. You are both in a position to help our readers with facts and positive reporting. Help better our world, please.

Mary I. Winters
