Winter homecoming crowns Mr. Cardinal
The crowds roared as the young men at Corning High School performed on the basketball court. Thing is, they weren't playing basketball, they were dancing.
It was Friday evening at the campus' north gym and the 21 male student-dancers were vying for the title of 2013 Mr. Cardinal during Winter Homecoming festivities.
Of course only one could win the coveted title and that winner was sophomore Aurther Lalanne of the Cardinal Band.
The competition is a long-held Cardinal tradition with each candidate representing a sport, club or school organization.
Just before their performance the boys gathered outside the gymnasium for a good-natured huddle and cheer.
Dressed in white T's and blue jeans, the group did their best to carryout a dance routine that included a dance-hall kick, a little Western line-dancing and some hip-hop.
The dance took place between the varsity girls and varsity boys basketball games.
Voted Mr. Irresistible was Chance Albee representing cheerleading, and Mr. Congeniality went to football representative Cooper McCoy.
The school had previously selected its Winter Homecoming Queen Marisa Vinson, and her court, Junior Princess Monique Davis, Sophomore Princess Sofi Oliverez and Freshman Princess Emily Delgado.
During the boys' varsity game half-time the homecoming court was presented and the queen crowned.
Candidates for Mr. Cardinal were McCoy, Lalanne, Albee, Michael Melia, Franky Maele, Marc Betenbaugh, Sean Dillon, Arturo Macias, Kevin Huff, Jonathan Gutierrez, Arnulfo Garcia, Brock Wazny, Colton Peterson, Dakota Henry, Jake Smith, Brian Mahutga, Obed Lopez, Mario Campos, Kolton Kuther, Evan McFadden and Alex Wunsch.
