Letter: A call to action: Vote the bums out
Now we're stuck with another obscenity: an $850 billion bailout. Economists on both sides of the issue state that it may not help the economy at all; many say it may make matters worse.
Many of us called our representatives and said no to the bailout. What did they do? They ignored our calls. After the House failed to pass it, the Senate acted. They added money to the bill as a "bribe" to House members and it worked. It was sickening to watch, but as it turned out, that was all we could do.
Was the economy at immediate risk? No. We now hear our representatives making the case that we will not see any improvement in the economy for months/years. What was the rush? Big banks wanted it and Wall Street insiders (Paulson and others) pushed for it. The bailout is not an intrusion of government into financial markets, it is just the opposite. If our vote is so important, then why don't we use it to "throw the bums out"?
I suggest we vote against any incumbent regardless of party affiliation. Our constitution challenges us to action. A government which no longer serves the people should be removed; "it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it." We must take control of our government. Let's vote the bums out.
