Letter: Big traffic woes with Highlands

January 31, 2008 - 3:12 PM

I recently read that Yuba Highlands will create about 6,000 car trips per day on Spenceville Road, and about 14,000 car trips on Hammonton-Smartville Road.

Also, if Highlands is approved, the Spring Valley housing development will have a green light to build 3,500 new homes.

This new development will put about 6,000-plus cars on Highway 20 between Loma Rica and Marysville. Imagine that many cars added to the number of cars and trucks already using Highway 20.

In addition to the other reasons:

• The negative effect on county services.

• Jeopardizing Beale Air Force Base.

• Changing the quality of rural life.

• The negative effect on Spenceville Wildlife Area.

We will be plagued with even larger numbers of cars on roads that are not designed to handle traffic on such a large scale.
