Yuba City

Senior Center hosts evening

The Yuba City Senior Center is hosting a Harvest Dinner and Dance Friday, with entertainment by Sarah Schrum, the "Country Sweetheart."

Reservations are due by Wednesday.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with entertainment at 6 p.m. and the dance from 7 to 10 p.m. Cost for the evening is $7 for dinner; $6 for the dance; or $10 for both.

Activities planned this month at the senior center, 777 Ainsley Ave., also include:

• Keyboarding class — Monday; cost $20 Yuba City residents, $22 non-residents.

• "Telephone Access" workshop — Thursday. This is a free workshop.

• Monthly Singles Meeting — Nov. 18. There is no fee.

Hallwood

Women's club sets cookie sale

Orders are being taken for the Hallwood Women's Club annual Fall Cookie Sale.

A baker's dozen of a variety of chocolate chip, chocolate crinkle, oatmeal raisin, peanut butter and snicker doodle cookies are selling for $9.50. Orders must be placed by Sunday, with delivery on Wednesday Orders must be pre-paid.

Forum planning session set

Members of the Youth Development Community Action Coalition will meet from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Friday Night Live in Marysville to plan a youth forum kick-off event.

The forum is planned Dec. 6.

Fitness to be luncheon topic

Karen Yeatts is the featured speaker at the "Fall into Fitness" luncheon sponsored by the Yuba City/Marysville Christian Women's Club.

The luncheon is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at The Refuge, 1501 Butte House Road, in Yuba City. The cost is $14.

The program also includes soloist Carol Keesling.

'Autumn Bounty' is dinner topic

"Autumn Bounty," featuring an annual gift basket silent auction, is the theme of the upcoming After 5 of Yuba City/Marysville's dinner.

Preview and bidding for the silent auction begin at 5:30 p.m., with dinner from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday at The Refuge, 1501 Butte House Road, in Yuba City. Dinner is $18.

The program includes speaker Bonnie Parrett and music by Shannon Bufford.

The California Retired Teachers Association is having a coffee hour at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sutter County Schools, 1599 Sierra Ave. in Yuba City. Sarah Pryor will speak about her trip to the Philippines.

Red Bluff

Sam Singles plan holiday camp-out

A Thanksgiving camp-out to the Red Bluff RV Park is planned Thursday to Nov. 16 by the North Sam Singles.

The club will provide a turkey, with campers asked to bring all the trimmings for the dinner.

Loma Rica

Lioness club hosts breakfast

The Loma Rica Lioness Club is hosting its monthly community breakfast from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Nov. 16 at the Foothill Lions Community Center, 5567 Fruitland Road, Loma Rica.

Breakfast will include sausage, ham or chicken-fried steak; eggs, cooked-to-order; biscuits and gravy, pancakes or waffles; hash browns; peaches; and orange juice and coffee.

Costs are $3.50 for children and $6 for adults. Additional items are an extra cost. This is the final community breakfast for 2008.

Live Oak

Colusa high grad joins CHP

Justin Rickersten of Live Oak completed California Highway Patrol cadet training and is assigned to the Hayward area office.

A 1993 graduate of Colusa High School, he attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, where he studied computer science.

He previously worked as a medical insurance biller at Back to Medicine Inc. in Yuba City.

Yuba City

Woodmen launch youth club

Modern Woodmen of America Youth Service Club is starting a chapter in Yuba City at 11 a.m. Nov. 19 at Guru Ram Das Preschool, 2468 Tierra Buena Road.

Open to children from infant to 11 years old, the group focuses on volunteering, patriotism, education and fun.

Led by Daljinder Kaur Bains, the Yuba-Sutter club will be sponsored by Modern Woodmen representative Yasser I. Ali. For more information, call 300-7439.

The organization has 750 clubs across the nation, with more than 750,000 members.

Marysville

Lindhurst high grad joins CHP

Hector Arroyo of Marysville completed the California Highway Patrol cadet training and is assigned to the East Los Angeles area office.

A 1997 graduate of Lindhurst High School, he served five years with the U.S. Marine Corps, attaining the rank of sergeant.

He previously worked for Markstein Beverage Company in Sacramento.

Yuba City

Pink October run winners named

Jacob Rydman and Karen Jeffers were named as overall male and female winners in the annual Pink October Race for Awareness 5K Run/Walk held Oct. 4 in Yuba City.

About 750 runners took part in the event that started and ended at Geweke Field.

Colusa

Craft fair ahead at fairgrounds

The 22nd Annual Colusa Holiday Craft Faire and Gift Show is set from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 22 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 23 at the Colusa County fairgrounds.

There is no cost for admission or parking. The fairgrounds are at 1303 10th St. in Colusa.

The event is sponsored by the 44th District Agricultural Association. For more information, call 458-2641.

Wheatland

Craft fair booth spaces offered

The Family Resource Center is accepting applications for booths at its fourth annual holiday craft fair set Dec. 13 at Bear River Middle School, 100 Wheatland Park Drive in Wheatland.

Rental costs are $25 for a booth and an optional $10 for a table.
