Letter: Out-of-towners ruined cruising
The cruise was from Marysville to Yuba City, over the Fifth Street Bridge to A&W on Shasta Street on down to the 10th Street Bridge, back down to E Street and back over the Fifth Street Bridge.
It was a way for young people to meet on Friday night and show off their cars. Super Bee's and Goats (GTO), and Mustangs, Malibu cars, etc.
It was OK until people from out of the area came and it tied up traffic. They came to Marysville and Yuba City from all over: Gridley, Nevada City, Oroville, Chico, Lodi, Nicolaus, Colusa ... and then it got to be a drag. There were too many cars, and you couldn't make it through one section of stop lights per sequence.
There was McDonald's and Taco Bell in Marysville and "The A" over in Yuba City. Picture "American Graffiti," if you will. It was a form of harmless entertainment, good music, food and sight seeing and car-hops at the "A." It's a thing of the past. Glad I was there.
