New Corning City Council members sworn in
Two new faces will be seen sitting with Mayor Gary Strack and City Council members Dave Linnet and Darlene Dickison on Tuesday.
Council members Tony Cardenas and Willie Smith were sworn into office on Dec. 4 by Tehama County Assistant Registrar of Voters Jennifer Vise during a swearing in ceremony. Also sworn into office were City Treasurer Pala Cantrell and City Clerk Lisa Linnet.
"I look forward to serving the city of Corning and its residents," Cardenas said.
Smith said again that she is glad the election is over.
The election spread between Smith and incumbent Leach was just eight votes.
Smith received 793 votes and Cardenas saw 1,009.
Outgoing Councilwoman Toni Parkins said she decided not to seek another term because she has different priorities.
She hasn't ruled out the possibility of running for the council seat again someday.
Leach said if was going to lose, it couldn't have been to better people.
"I plan to focus my time on the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion groups here in Corning," he said.
Leach feels the most important issues the council dealt with during his time in office was the budget and marijuana dispensary and cultivation ordinances.
"I will continue to serve on the Community Action Agency," he said. "And I may run for office again in two years."
Both Parkins and Leach said they appreciate their time serving with city staff.
At the end of the swearing in ceremony Strack presented Leach and Parkins with plaques of appreciation for their time serving the city.
