Marysville gymnastics: Head over heels at Allyn Scott
This year, the Allyn Scott Youth and Community Center's Community Recreation Program takes over classes that teach children gymnastics. Last year, similar classes were run through the Yuba County Recreation Department.
"The idea was to keep activities coming to the center and to keep classes available to the community," said Martha Duran, site manager and after school program coordinator for the center. "This is an amazing facility, and we have a lot of activities that happen here. Healthy kids make happy kids."
Felicity Atkinson, 6, of Browns Valley, said her favorite part of gymnastics is the cartwheels because her head spins around and around.
Instructors Kathy Lopes and Terra Yaney are teaching gymnastics to children ages 3 and up.
"I like watching the kids learn and share a passion for something that I have," said Lopes.
"We'd like to increase the Community Recreation Program to include mixed martial arts classes as well as ballet and tap dance classes. We're interested in talking to people who have skills they would like to share and teach classes," added Duran.
