Clovers happy with response from nearby developer

A Pease Road homeowner who complained about flooding from nearby development is getting some help.

The Appeal-Democrat reported Wednesday that Bev Clover, of Pease Road, said drainage water was backing up into her yard.

A small amount of water may have come off the subdivision, but after talking with Grant Clover it was apparent that historic flooding has occurred on a corner of the Clover's property from the street rather than the subdivision property, said Ken Allred, vice-president of land development for Dunmore Homes.

Allred said the company had tried to contact the Clovers during the past six weeks to try and finish up the drainage. He said the job could not be done until the company got permission to enter the Clover's property.

“To make that work, we needed the right of entry from the Clovers,” Allred said. “We have not been able to gain that right of entry.”

Allred said there was a “timing oversight” between Dunmore Homes and the Clovers.

Bev Clover said some water does come off the road but it was not draining as it did before because of dirt piled against her fence.

She said no one from the company had contacted her before but she was quite pleased with the response on Wednesday.

“At this point, I'm quite happy they contacted us and they're doing something, and hopefully we won't have this problem again,” said Clover.

Construction workers from Dunmore Homes started building drainage Wednesday on the company's land to keep any water off the Clovers' property.

Wednesday's article also generated interest from Yuba City officials.

City Engineer Pam Babjack said she contacted Dunmore Homes Wednesday and requested a timeline for when the drainage work would be done.

She and other Yuba City employees also stopped by the residence Wednesday to inspect the situation.

The Clovers live near a drainage pond for a 400-home Dunmore Homes subdivision on the city's north side.
