UPDATE: Southridge Golf Club (Closed)

Southridge Golf Club's 18-year run at the base of the Sutter Buttes appears to be over. The Kumar family ownership shut down its back nine first and now has closed the course entirely, citing a downturn in play and membership.

It's a shame but not really surprising. Southridge is unique because of its scenic beauty, especially as it winds its way into the Buttes for the back nine. As the holes climb higher into the Buttes on holes 12-16, the views of the vally below are stunning.

Unfortunately, the course’s upkeep couldn't match its natural beauty. Driving your cart required close attention because there were some jarring potholes badly in need of repair. The fairways were in poor condition, overgrown in spots, bare in others, and the course has been prone to a lot of standing water. Greens also have been spotty.

Southridge always had the potential to be special, but that would require a major infusion of cash, especially now with the course shuttered. The possibility remains of reopening at least the front now, which would make sense from a maintenance standpoint since the front is relatively flat and easier to keep up. We'll see.
