Nursing director out at Yuba College

Sheila Scroggins, director of the Yuba College nursing program, was let go from her administrative position after a closed-door meeting on Thursday of the Board of Trustees.

Brent Hastey, board chairman for the Yuba Community College District, announced the unanimous approval by trustees of her release after the meeting about Scroggins' employment.

Trustee David Wheeler said the action is not a termination of Scroggins and that she could return as a faculty member in the nursing program. She came to administration from the faculty, Wheeler said.

"There are some issues with her administration of the program," Wheeler said. "That really is all I know."

He added that "The nursing program is not in trouble."

Wheeler, a retired professor at Yuba College, said he worked as an administrator before returning to teaching.

"I was a dean for a while," Wheeler said, "and I chose to go back."

The website for Yuba College states that Scroggins has a rich and extensive teaching career. She has been teaching for more than 20 years and had served as nursing program director since 2010, according to the website.

Jacques Whitfield, chief human resources officer for the college district, could not be reached Friday afternoon. Voicemails were left for Whitfield and emails sent to the human resources officer.
