Yuba College men roll Mt. Hood
The Yuba College men's basketball team continues to impress.
In what coach Doug Cornelius called his team's best defensive effort of the season, the 49ers defeated Mt. Hood College out of Oregon 63-44 in the second round of the 74th annual Modesto Classic on Thursday.
Anthony Romero scored 19 points, Spencer Butterfield added 17 and Kevin Crabb scored 12.
Cornelius learned Thursday that Yuba (11-2) has played the toughest schedule in the state. The 49ers have the lowest RPI of any team in California.
"These kids are battling," Cornelius said.
Mt. Hood was coming off a victory in the first round over previously unbeaten Sacramento City College.
Yuba's Cody Kale led the defensive assault by holding Mt. Hood's top scorer, who had 27 points against the Panthers, to just three points against Yuba.
