Comments 0 | Recommend 0The River Valley High School Advancement Via Individual Determination program is hosting its third Annual Barbecue Dinner fundraiser from 5 to 8 p.m. today.
Tickets, $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12 years old, can be purchased at the door of the RVHS multi-purpose room, 801 El Margarita Road, Yuba City.
Activities include a talent show segment, a silent auction and numerous drawings for prizes. Money raised goes to support the AVID program to prepare students for college and take students on college campus tours.

Students at Riverside Meadows Intermediate School in Plumas Lake are competing against other middle schools throughout the country in the Garrett Morgan Sustainable Transportation Program for the 21st Century Symposium.
The seventh- and eighth-graders will be using their imaginations to create an award-winning transportation project.
The winning school will receive a $1,000 check, with a parent, student and teacher receiving an all-expense paid trip to the awards banquet in June in San Jose; and teachers of all participating classes will receive a $50 gift certificate for project supplies.
The program is sponsored by Caltrans, the Mineta Transportation Institute of San Jose and the Federal Highway Administration.

Rodgers and Hammerstein's "South Pacific" will be performed by the Sutter Union High School Drama Club.
Performances will be at 7 p.m. March 10, 12 and 16 to 19 in the school's music room, 2665 Acacia Ave., Sutter.
Tickets are $7 and may be purchased in advance at the school's Associated Student Body window or at the door on the day of the performance. Seating is limited.

Valley Christian Academy in Yuba City is accepting applications for students in kindergarten to eighth grade for the 2009-2010 academic year.
The school has small class sizes, state of the art curriculum, computers and a daily physical education program.

Live Oak High School student Brittan Oakley won this year's Live Oak Lions annual student speakers contest held Feb. 16.
He received a $50 check and a certificate as a grand prize and moved on to the Lions Club zone level competition.
Four students spoke on the topic "Water — Will California be left high and dry?" and were judged on content, delivery and overall effectiveness.
Brittan Oakley is the son of Kristina Oakley.

Courtney Odom was named to the president's list for the fall semester at California State University, Long Beach.
A graduate of Sutter Union High School, she is the daughter of Gary and Chris Odom of Marysville.
Odom will earn a bachelor's degree in human development this May and works at the Center for Autism and Related Disorders in Torrance. Last summer, she completed a "Death and Dying" seminar in South Africa.

Williams Elementary School is conducting kindergarten registration March 25.
Children must be 5 years old on or before Dec. 2. A parent or guardian must be present and have the child's birth certificate, proof of residency and current immunization records to register.
Immunizations against varicella, measles, Hepatitis B and polio, in addition to four DTP doses, are required for registration.

Dog obedience classes are among the varied non-degree non-credit classes being offered by the Yuba College Community Education program.
The class will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays March 23 to May 25. Fee: $70.
Courses also include:
• Motorcycle Safety — each weekend throughout March. Fee: $140 and $220.
• Mature Driver Program — March 18 and 19. Fee: $25.
All classes will be at Yuba College, 2088 N. Beale Road, Linda.
