Letter: Back candidates who adhere to Constitution

Divide and conquer has been a dynamic for downfall at least since the Roman Empire pitted small tribes against each other in order to gain control over them.

As I watch this election season grind on, I am struck by the extent to which we have become a nation increasingly divided by our self interests and thus ripe for conquer.

Too many among us have descended so far into the mire of self-interest that they no longer feel the weight of their responsibility to enforce the core principles of our founding documents: We are all created equal; our individual freedoms are granted by our Creator; the authority of our government is limited to that granted by we the people as delineated in our Constitution.

As grantors of governmental authority, it follows that we are the caretakers and enforcers that guarantee our government abides by the rules we have set forth. If you are choosing candidates based on their position on your "cause" rather than their adherence to our Constitution, you are falling short in your responsibility as a citizen of our great country.
