Mrs. Julian Dobbins, wife of the local dentist, has the distinction of being the first woman to wear an undersheriff's badge in California. Mrs. Dobbins was appointed undersheriff by Sheriff Henry Walker, and was sworn in by Deputy County Clerk Frank Steel, Mrs. Dobbins is a robust woman, and is said to possess every requirement for the office. She is well known in Yuba county, having been raised here.
50 years
Beale Air Force Base became the first Air Force instalation in California to sign a pact with Federal and State governments in a cooperative program for conservation and development of its fish and wildlife resources.
25 years
A Sutter County farm laborer died from a gunshot to the head over the weekend while playing Russian roulette as a woman friend looked on.
10 years
Frustrated by the limits of local and state funding, Yuba City has started a nonprofit foundation to raise money for new parks, upgrades at existing parks and recreation programs. The Friends of Yuba City Parks and Recreation Foundation was created to solicit donations and raise money through efforts that included adopt-a-park programs or memorial programs for trees and benches.

Administrators from the Sutter County Superintendent of Schools office settled on the $4.4 million purchase of a 132-acre site in Nevada County for the Woodleaf Outdoor School. The new site, originally developed as a private school in 1999, was subsequently converted into the Shady Creek Family Camp and Conference Center by private investors.
