Yuba City
Lee wins Oratorical Contest
River Valley High School junior Bridgit Lee won the National High School Oratorical Contest hosted by the American Legion Stephen M. Brammer Post 705.
She will compete at the district level Feb. 10 in Durham. District winners will have a chance to win a $1,200 scholarship at the state level and $18,000 at the national contest.
The post contest was held Saturday at the Veterans Memorial Building in Yuba City.
Colusa County
Mural project seeks artists
Artistic students in Colusa County high schools and adults are invited to participate in the Mobile Mural Project organized by Colusa County Arts Council.
The theme is Create-Inspire, Create-Vision, Create-Love, Create-Unity.
Students can pick up applications at their school — in Colusa, Maxwell, Princeton, Williams and Arbuckle — and adults can get applications at the Colusa County Arts Council office, 430 Market St., Suite C, Colusa.
The deadline to apply is Jan. 31.
Chosen artists will be notified between Feb. 11 and 15. The first scheduled paint fest day is Feb. 26.

Carranza named to dean's list
Former Gridley resident Chelsea Carranza was named to the fall 2012 semester dean's list at Grand Rapids Community College in Grand Rapids, Mich.
She is studying in the nursing program.
The daughter of Laura and Rick Helms of Gridley, she is a graduate of Marysville High School.
Yuba City
Pizza fundraiser set Wednesday
Customers at Papa Murphy's Take 'N' Bake Pizza in Yuba City can donate to the Marysville High School Grad Night class of 2013 during a fundraiser day at the business.
The restaurant will donate 20 percent of its regularly priced sales on Wednesday. Customers must mention the MHS Grad Night when placing their order.
