Gold Sox drop rare road game

Yuba-Sutter Gold Sox newcomers Logan Ardis and Vince DeCoito didn't exactly get the welcome they might have wanted Tuesday night.

Ardis, a freshman from Stanford, and DeCoito, a returner from UC Davis, each pitched for the first time for the Gold Sox, joining the team Tuesday after finishing finals recently at their respective schools.

The Solano Thunderbirds touched Ardis and DeCoito for three runs, taking a California Collegiate League game 3-1 at Travis Credit Union Park in Vacaville.

The Thunderbirds (5-1, 2-0) will travel to Marysville for a Thursday league game.

Ardis pitched three innings, giving up a run and two hits while fanning four. He walked one and hit a batter. DeCoito (0-1) relieved Ardis in the fourth and pitched 32/3 innings, taking the loss.

DeCoito allowed five hits and two runs. Wes Porter came on in the seventh for DeCoito, getting a groundout and striking out three in the eighth.

Solano broke a 1-1 tie in the sixth with a run and tacked on another in the bottom of the seventh.

The Gold Sox (9-3, 5-2) threatened in the top of the ninth, closing to within a run, but left a runner stranded on third.

Ray Neil got the win for Solano in relief. He pitched three innings, allowing an unearned run on no hits with a walk.

R.C. Dickerson returned from a hamstring injury and had three of the Gold Sox' five hits and also drove in a run.
