Bangor shooting victim identified
A man fatally shot Saturday by Butte County deputies has been identified as Bangor resident Chad Evan Terrio, 22.
Terrio allegedly lunged at deputies with a knife on North Stoney Oaks Loop in Bangor. Deputies fired several shots in response, and he died at the scene.
Three deputies - Todd Reinhardt, Jason Louis and Tim Langel - are on administrative leave while the shooting is investigated, according to the Butte County Sheriff's Office.
An autopsy was to be performed today to determine if drugs or alcohol played a role in the incident.
Deputies responded at 8:09 p.m. to a report that Terrio had a knife and was out of control.
Before the deputies arrived the man left the scene on foot. After searching the area, deputies found him on North Stoney Loops and attempted to talk to him. When they found him, Terrio pulled out the knife and refused to drop it.
Deputies performed CPR after the shooting, but Terrio was dead by the time paramedics arrived.
A “shooting protocol team” made up of representatives of law enforcement and other agencies is investigating the shooting.
