Letter: Vote ‘no’ on N to block Highlands

January 27, 2008 - 1:47 AM

For anybody now tempted to vote “yes” on Measure N (Yuba Highlands development), now that the would-be developer has reduced his project to 4,400 houses instead of 5,100 - please don’t! This small decrease makes little real change in the threats this project poses of huge traffic increases and Roseville-style development in rural Yuba County (still right next to the Spenceville Wildlife Area and Beale Air Force Base).

Such a new, isolated development would still be the size of most foothills towns. I live close enough down Highway 20 to be highly concerned about the negative effects such a leapfrog subdivision development would have on traffic, and it would be far worse in Marysville and along Highway 65 (already to be impacted by the 20,000 homes that Yuba County has approved in the East Linda-Plumas Lake area).

This area should be kept rural. Please vote “no” on Measure N.
