LOCAL ROUNDUP: Yuba College volleyball continues to romp in BVC

Niners men's soccer tops Marin

The Yuba College volleyball team continues to romp through the Bay Valley Conference.

The 49ers blasted visiting Contra Costa 3-0 on Friday evening with game scores of 25-9, 25-14 and 25-9.

Brenna McDonald and Angela DeHaan both recorded eight kills for Yuba (11-1, 4-0), while Katie Reiland added six kills.

McDonald tallied two digs and DeHaan made a block with two service aces.

Katie Olsen had a solid all-around match with five kills, four digs and two aces.

Sophomore setter Sam Foster dished out 27 assists to go with her two digs. Allison Foster picked up seven digs and Shaila Gidel had six digs.

MEN'S SOCCER

Yuba 2, Marin 1

In Kentfield — Dario Teyes and Michael Olisa both assisted each other on a goal as the 49ers came away with a BVC victory.

Yuba improved to 2-1-1 in conference play and 4-4-2 overall.

WOMEN'S SOCCER

Mendocino 5, Yuba 2

In Ukiah — Wendy Valencia scored from 20 yards out early in the first half, but the Niners couldn't hold off the Eagles in BVC action.

Yesenia Zarate added Yuba's other goal in the 70th minute on an assist from Janet Delcid.

The 49ers (0-5-2, 0-1-1) are still looking for their first win.

HIGH SCHOOL

BOYS SOCCER

Faith Christian 9, Lutheran 0

In Elk Grove — Sam Ithurburn had a hat trick and an assist as the Lions routed the Panthers in Sacramento Metropolitan Athletic League play.

Drew Tollenaar and Deep Bhatti each scored two goals, while Tollenaar added two assists.

Chase Gordon and Chase Tollenaar both scored goals as well for Faith (5-7-2, 2-0).

CROSS COUNTRY

Pirates shine at Yuba-Sutter Invite

In Marysville — Wheatland's cross country team competed at the Yuba-Sutter Invitational at Riverfront Park on Friday afternoon.

In the varsity boys race, Spencer Koski placed 14th with a time of 19 minutes, 29 seconds. Gary Marcella took 29th with a time of 20:52.

Both runners medaled.

In the frosh-soph boys race, David Ries medaled with a 21st-place finish (21:31). Jasmine Napenas took 16th and medaled in the frosh-soph girls race with a 27:44.

VOLLEYBALL

Marysville 3, Mesa Verde 0

In Citrus Heights — The Indians defeated the Mavericks in Golden Empire League play on Thursday by game scores of 25-13, 25-12 and 25-8.

Mattyann Townsend picked up nine kills, two blocks and two aces to lead the Indians.

Candice Hugi added seven kills, five blocks, four digs and an ace for Marysville (8-4, 5-1) while Reyna Williamson doled out 12 assists and tallied five kills. Marimar Terriquez added 11 assists.

The Indians' JV squad (8-4, 5-1) defeated Mesa Verde 29-27, 25-16. Savanna Harris had six kills and four assists. Kelsey Collins was solid with three kills, seven assists and four aces, while Atheena Huett had five digs and two aces.

Marysville's frosh team (3-6, 3-1) completed the sweep with a 25-11, 23-25, 15-13 victory.

Angelica Maples served 11 aces to go with three kills. Megan Sandler had six kills and Sam Vantress chipped in with four assists and two kills.
