What's Happening in Stonyford: Support your local post office

I was afraid everyone was going to be tired of corned beef by the time we got to last Tuesday night's dinner at the Grange, but we had a good turnout.

We only had a bit left over and were able to sell the last roast for cost.

Indian Valley Elementary School is having their Lasagna Dinner tonight from 4:30 p.m.-7 p.m. at the Town Hall. They are raising funds for the spring field trip to the Monterey Bay Aquarium and San Juan Bautista. The dinner is$8 for adults and $6 for children. Takeouts are available or you may dine in.

Our family is having a yard sale this weekend at 2435 Lakeview Loop. This is our son's place, down the road from ours. We had a renter who left last summer, and he just left some of his stuff there. So we added enough from our place, and our kids, to make a big yard sale.

I have some beads and rocks from our trip to Arizona to add to the lot. The house is vacant, so it makes a nice, warm and dry place to hang out for the weekend. We'll be there from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

Don't forget this Monday is the beginning of the new hours at the post office, 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Same hours still on Saturday, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

I know this will make it more difficult to do business here if you work during the day. But it's important to bring your business to your local post office as much as possible.

Postage you buy online will get credited to the zip code of your return address. One of the criteria they use to decide on hours and whether or not to keep an office open is the revenue it generates. We would feel the loss even more if we lose our post office altogether.

Our local mechanic appreciates your support. Frank at Stonyford Automotive is offering a sale on oil changes: oil, filter and hazardous waste for only $38. And he offers a discount to our seniors, 10 percent on parts. It has been very convenient to have a repair shop in town.

Zumba is doing well, still Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 5 p.m., only $1 per visit. I'm not sure visit is the right word. I guess it should be workout.

Tuesday dinner at the Grange is meatloaf, with mashed potatoes and gravy, veggie, coffee or punch and dessert. The meat loaf is back by popular demand. We had several requests for it.

We have a discussion at our house: mashed potatoes with or without the peel. It seems to me to be the newer method is with the peels, and sometimes a lot of other stuff added also: garlic, cheese, French's onions, parsley or more. Let me know what you think. I might be able to make some homemade dinner rolls, no promises, though.

Sew What!? was good this week. I shared photos from a couple of quilt shows, and demonstrated a paper-piecing project. We meet Wednesdays at 10 a.m.

Bingo is Wednesday at 6 p.m. Our blackout number is creeping up each week. Stop in a check it out.

Easter events are on for next weekend. There's a big gathering at the Assembly of God: egg hunt, BBQ, crafts and prizes, just good fellowship. The Community Church is having sunrise service at the rodeo grounds.

Cake Walk at the Grange is April 27. Stonyford PCRA Rodeo on May 4-5.
