What's Happening in Stonyford? Harvest dinner set for tonight

The Harvest dinner is tonight at 6 p.m. at the Grange Hall. It's an event to say farewell to summer and welcome in the fall. It's a potluck, so bring your favorite dish. We will honor our Citizen of the Year. There will be a little music and lots of fellowship.

The big push for flu shots is over, but the shots will still be available at the CRMC Clinic on Lodoga Stonyford Road. They are open from 9 a.m.-noon on Fridays. Walk-ins are okay.

Bingo was fun last Wednesday. We had a nice crowd. The next Bingo is the fourth Wednesday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. Come out and join us.

Our chicken enchilada dinner at the Grange was our biggest turnout so far. I guess we'll have to have this dish again sometime soon. Thank you to all who supported us.

Next Tuesday's menu will be meatloaf, mashed potatoes and gravy, and green beans with homemade dinner rolls, and dessert. We start serving at 5 p.m.

Last week we served 10 more dinners than usual and ran out of food by 6 p.m.

We're planning for more, but don't wait for the last minute.

This Tuesday night dinner is our main income for the year now.

We used to make a lot of money serving meals at rodeo time in May. It just got to be too much work for our small group of workers. We are happy to say that the dinners are sufficient to pay the monthly bills and take care of the two scholarships we fund, one each for Elk Creek and Maxwell high schools.

Chit Chat is next Wednesday at noon. I'm the hostess this month. We'll have a fall theme for the luncheon.

The Cake Walk is coming up at 6 p.m. Oct. 27.

Costumes are encouraged, but not required. Kids in costume will get a treat.

We need cakes for this event. If you can bake for us, give me a call at 963-3050.

I didn't see any frost on the pumpkin, but the snowbirds are starting to fly south anyway.

Our brother Ted is leaving this week for Yuma. Larry will have to take care of the chickens all by himself with Ted gone.

You'll see a lot of big RV's going south if you happen to be out on I-5.

There are a lot of them with Canadian license plates.

One of the comments we heard last year was that Mexico wanted to buy Arizona but the Canadians wouldn't sell it to them.

Larry and Ted feel right at home down there. They came from Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan which is at the Sault Locks, on the Canadian border. So the Canadian accent sounds like home to them.
