Stanford

District 10 man graduates

Tommy Shultz, the son of Tom and Dayna Shultz of District 10, graduated from Stanford University with a bachelor's degree in science, technology and society.

In addition, he was among 100 classmates chosen to receive the "Stanford Award of Excellence" from the Stanford Alumni Association.

As a student he was president of the Stanford Conservative Society, business manager of the Stanford Review and house manager of the Sigma Nu fraternity.

Accepted to the Charles Koch Associate internship program in Washington, D.C., Shultz will be working for the Fund for American Studies and plans a career in political consulting.

Recycling fun at library

Learn about "Eco-Tainment with Doug Nolan of Rock Steady Juggling, Saturday at 4 p.m.

Held at the Yuba County Library, 303 Second St., Marysville, admission is free.

Nolan will use juggling, comedy and audience participation to inform you about reducing, reusing and recycling, water conservation and pollution prevention.

Author will talk about Buttes

Residents can share their personal storied about the Sutter Buttes with local author Mike Hubbart during a special program Thursday in Gridley.

The program begins at 7 p.m. at the Butte County Library, 299 Spruce St.

Hubbart will speak about the process behind publishing his pictoprial history book and autograph copies of his book which will available for purchase.

50 receive free health screenings

P.J.'s Health Mart Pharmacy in Yuba City was among the stops of the Health Mart Healthy Living Tour providing free health screenings.

Approximately 50 people participated in the event receiving blood pressure, cholesterol, blood glucose and hemoglobin Alc tests.

Co-sponsored by Bayer Diabetes Care and Novo Nordisk, the tour is to celebrate and recognize community pharmacists for the role they play as trusted healthcare providers in their communities.

Yuba City

Diving class at Gauche Park

A diving class is set from July 22 to Aug. 12 at Gauche Aquatic Park, 421 C St., in Yuba City.

The one-hour class, open to those ages 8 years and up, begins at 2:30 p.m. at a cost of $25.

Eligible participants must be able to swim 25 yards and tread water for at least one minute.

Registration can be done online at www.yubacity.net or in person at the park.

The class is subject to cancellation if the minimum enrollment number is not met.

Live Oak

BBQ planned for Saturday

A barbecue is planned during the Rolling Revival and Motorcycle Run for the Homeless event planned Saturday in Live Oak.

Registration begins at 8 p.m. at Live Oak Baptist Church, 2480 Pennington Road.

Cost is $20 for single and $25 for double plus canned food items.

Door prizes and live music are also included in the event.

Proceeds will benefit the Twin Cities and Oroville rescue missions. Call 624-8032 for more information.

Immigration fraud forum planned

A Spanish-language forum on being aware of immigration scams is planned at the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services office in Sacramento.

"The wrong help can hurt: Beware of immigration scams" is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. July 28 at 650 Capitol Mall in Sacramento.

The event is free.

Community fundraiser Aug. 8

A community fundraiser and yard sale is planned Aug. 8 in Yuba City by the Minnehaha Rebekah Lodge.

Held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., the event will be at the group's lodge at 290 Percey Ave.

The event includes a homemade ice cream and cookie social, and a drawing for a convection oven.

Tickets for the drawing are $1 each or six for $5.
