TCC champion Y.C., nine other Mid-Valley area volleyball teams set for playoffs

They're at it again, Honkers volleyball that is.

The Yuba City High volleyball team will host a team in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II playoffs for the fourth straight year and six straight year earning a playoff spot.

All-Tri-County Conference selections Taylor Thompson, Tori Thomas, Katie Reiland and Jacqueline Van Ruiten will lead the No. 4 Honkers up against No. 13 Bella Vista today.

Thompson, one of the most dominant players in the Mid-Valley area, finished the regular season with 263 kills, 37 aces and 191 digs.

But the senior outside hitter isn't alone.

Junior setter Thomas recorded 571 assists, junior middle hitter Reiland planted 215 kills and senior libero had nearly 350 digs, plus 422 serve-receives.

Yuba City (21-10 overall, 9-1 TCC) will begin play at 7 p.m. All Mid-Valley area playoff games are scheduled to start at the same time.

No. 4 New Life Christian also earned a first-round home game in Div. V.

The Crusaders will face off against No. 13 Turlock tonight.

On the road in Div. V will be No. 12 Faith Christian, which will take on No. 5 Woodland Christian. The Lions are led by Morgan Trimble's 96 kills, Danielle Best's 50 aces, Sarah Hall's 116 digs and Gabi Hinz's 168 assists.

No. 14 Marysville will hit the road to face No. 3 Ripon in the Div. IV bracket. Hailey Harris has been a force at the net for the Indians all season, recording 104 kills and 28 blocks. Meanwhile, Danielle Ferrari leads the team in digs (76), assists (124) and aces (35).

In the Northern Section, it's the same old story.

Sutter (34-3, 10-0) and East Nicolaus (21-6, 9-1) are still dominant.

The only two schools in the Mid-Valley area to earn a spot to compete at NorCals last year have returned in form.

Sutter is led by Brenna McDonald's 250 kills, Kamalei Clifton's 771 assists and Audrey Durfor, who leads the squad in aces (43) and digs (406).

No. 1 Sutter will await the winner of No. 8 Live Oak and No. 9 Mt. Shasta in Div. IV.

Also in Div. IV is No. 3 Gridley, which will face No. 6 Orland on Thursday.

No. 2 East Nicolaus, which will face the winner of No. 7 Esparto and No. 10 U-Prep on Thursday in Div. V, is led by Stephanie Hagins' 273 kills, Juliet Conant's 59 blocks and Hailey Uhland's 646 assists, 169 digs and 76 aces.

Rescind it. Now is not the time.
Give it to her. She should be compensated fairly and competitively.
