Gold Sox come up short
There won't be a dog pile celebration this summer at Appeal-Democrat Park.
A year after winning the McCullough Division of the Horizon Air Summer Series, the Marysville Gold Sox were eliminated from contention on Saturday night with a 6-4 loss to the Nor Cal Longhorns in front of 2,476 fans on the final fireworks night of the season.
The Longhorns hadn't defeated the Gold Sox since July 27, 2008.
Nor Cal jumped on Marysville for a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Gold Sox tied things up at 3-3, highlighted by RBI singles from Tito Quiñones and Johnny Rubino.
The Longhorns took back the lead, including two runs in the seventh inning, to make things 6-3.
Marysville's biggest hit came in the eighth inning off the bat of Colby Harrison, who hit a solo home run.
The Sox (31-11, 28-11 in HASS) threatened in the bottom of the ninth, but left two runners on.
Nor Cal pounded out 13 hits and didn't commit an error while the Gold Sox totaled nine hits and committed one error.
The two teams conclude their four-game series tonight at 6 p.m. on Military Appreciation Night.
