Torture retrial begins in Yuba County
A second jury trial is underway in Yuba County for a Linda man charged with torturing his girlfriend over three drug-fueled days in April.
Jury selection began Tuesday in Yuba County Superior Court in the case against Tyrone Lawrence Dyson.
Dyson, 39, faces four felony rape, assault and domestic violence charges.
Judge Julia L. Scrogin is presiding over the trial.
An emotional and contentious Yuba County jury convicted Dyson in July for threatening to kill the 31-year-old victim, but deadlocked on the more serious charges. The jury favored convicting Dyson on all counts, but a few jurors believed the victim’s testimony was not credible.
Dyson has denied any wrong doing and has rejected several plea deals from the Yuba County District Attorney’s Office that would have sent him to prison for about 20 years.
He remains in custody without bail at the Yuba County Jail.
