Tierra Buena Elementary School

Yuba City

• Fifth-graders from the classes of Amy Camburn, Cynthia Sharp and Maria Smith are selling tickets to help pay for their weeklong Outdoor School experience at Shady Creek coming up Feb. 21 to 24.

• The fourth-grade students in Vicki Miller's class took a virtual field trip to the gold rush town of Columbia, located in the Sonora area, east of Stockton. They were guided by a park ranger who provided an overview of the life and times of those who came to California seeking a fortune.

• Also recently, the sixth-graders in the classes of Ken Kennedy, Pattie Keene and Barbara Riggs took a virtual field trip via the Parks Online Resources for Teachers and Students website to the Baldwin Hills overlook near downtown Los Angeles. The students used this "field trip" to supplement their study of weather.

Butte Vista School

Yuba City

• This week, our choir participated in an all-district choir festival. The choir, led by John Paris, consisted of sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders who combined with all other middle school and high school choirs.

• Kicking off the 100th day of school, our librarian, Susan Johnson, asked kindergarten through third-graders to read 100 books. Readers will have their names displayed in the library.

Luther Elementary School

Live Oak

• Third-grade students from Darrell Stewart, Diane Farmer, Linda Cardoso, Jill Frausto and Abigail Jones' classes released salmon into the Feather River. Students studied the life cycle of the salmon and returned the fish back into their natural environment.

Franklin Elementary School

Yuba City

• Jon Trefzger, Luther Martinez and Karen Kuykendall's sixth-graders are attending Shady Creek Outdoor School this week.

Riverbend Elementary School

Yuba City

• Michele Wright's Drama Club attended two shows. First, they enjoyed an evening at the Yuba City High School "murder-mystery" production, "A Family Reunion to Die For." Several students also accompanied the teacher to "West Side Story" in Sacramento.
