PREP ROUNDUP: RV boys rout Pioneer at home
YC drops tough one to Inderkum
It was a good day at the office for the River Valley High boys basketball team.
The Falcons shot 53 percent from the field as they blasted visiting Pioneer 80-43 at Falcon Gymnasium in a Tri-County Conference matchup.
Senior Jordan Noall led River Valley with 13 points and seven rebounds as the Falcons moved to 4-2 in TCC play and 13-10 overall.
T.J. Dove added 11 points, while Gurvir Gill and Shawn Singh each tacked on 10 points.
The Falcons are ranked No. 16 in the Sac-Joaquin Section's first set of Division III power ratings released on Tuesday. If they stay there, the Falcons will clinch their first playoff berth in program history — winning 15 games would also qualify RV for the postseason.
River Valley will travel to Sacramento on Friday to face Natomas.
Inderkum 55, Yuba City 51
In Sacramento — The woes continued for the Honkers as they dropped a heartbreaker to the first-place Tigers in TCC action.
Travis Blas scored 17 points on five 3-pointers to lead Yuba City (9-13, 1-5), while Louis Mowers added 10 points.
Nathan Gillming and Tanner McAlister each put up six points for the Honkers, who are still without the services of senior guard Gurpreet Singh.
The loss assures Yuba City will be staying home in the postseason for the first time since the 2006-07 season.
Mesa Verde 62, Lindhurst 49
In Citrus Heights — Lindhurst (12-12, 3-4) dropped a tough GEL contest to the Mavericks, meaning the Blazers will have to win their final three games to qualify for the playoffs.
Hugo Arroyo led Lindhurst with 17 points and six rebounds. Cedrick Thomas added 11 points, six assists and six rebounds, while Devin Ward also scored 11 points.
Capital Christian 66, Marysville 31
In Marysville — Thomas Mehler scored nine points for Marysville, which dropped to 0-8 in GEL play and 5-18 overall.
WRESTLING
Wheatland 55, Gridley 15
In Wheatland — The Bulldogs forfeited eight matches as the Pirates cruised to a BVL victory on Senior Night.
Mikey Hawkins won by an 11-1 major decision in the 152-pound weight class, while Jordyn Jones (160) added a 4-2 win by decision.
JV BOYS BASKETBALL
River Valley 71, Pioneer 18
In Yuba City — Every player on the Falcons' roster played and scored in the TCC victory.
Bickrum Singh scored 11 points, while Karanvir Takhar and Rohin Basi each dropped in nine for the Falcons (13-7, 4-1).
Inderkum 55, Yuba City 54, OT
In Sacramento — Angel Hernandez scored 26 points for the Honkers, but the Tigers were able to edge Yuba City in a close TCC contest.
Parker Lowe had a double-double with 21 points and 15 rebounds, while John Horn chipped in with five points and eight assists for Yuba City (11-11, 4-2).
Lindhurst 41, Mesa Verde 32
In Citrus Heights — Rene Corona scored 15 points and Josh Yang added 10 as the Blazers (9-11, 3-4) picked up a GEL road victory over the Mavericks.
Capital Christian 66, Marysville 31
In Marysville — Erik Scheize had a good night for the Indians with 24 points and 14 rebounds, but Marysville (3-18, 0-9) fell to the Cougars.
Daniel Peterovic tacked on 12 points for the Indians.
FROSH BOYS BASKETBALL
River Valley 52, Pioneer 51
In Yuba City — Gurjeet Singh scored 21 points and Jasdeep Bains added 11 as the Falcons completed the sweep over the Patriots.
Sukhman Janda put up eight points for River Valley (5-15, 2-3).
Inderkum 63, Yuba City 50
In Sacramento — The Honkers (13-11. 4-1) suffered their first TCC loss of the season as Cameron Eden and Daniel Claydon both scored nine points.
