Marysville police looking for family to adopt for holidays
• Nov. 30 — The Humvee will be parked in front of the Courthouse Cafe, in the 500 block of B Street, Marysville, from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Those donating a gift will receive a free breakfast or lunch item, such as soda, coffee or a bagel. And later, the Humvee will be parked from 4 p.m.-9 p.m at Third and D streets, Marysville, for the Gold Rush Christmas Event.
• Dec. 1 — The Humvee will be parked at the corner of Sixth and D streets before and after the Annual Marysville Christmas Parade.
• Dec. 8 – The Humvee will be on display during the Christmas in the Park event at Circle Park in East Marysville.
• Gift drop-off locations: Save Mart Supermarket in Marysville, Ace Hardware, The Training Zone, Marysville Police Department, Marysville City Hall, Farmer's Marketplace, Yuba County Library and the Courthouse Cafe.
Marysville police are looking for a local family to "adopt" for Christmas.
"We want to help those in the community with the greatest need during these hard times, especially throughout the holidays," Sgt. Chris Sachs said in a statement.
The Marysville Police Department is also accepting gift donations to pass on to the family they will adopt.
Officers hope to fill the department's newly acquired Humvee with gifts for the adopted family.
The military surplus vehicle came to the department in July for use in emergencies such as floods and wildfires.
Officers have also used the vehicle as a tribute to local military veterans. The vehicle made its public debut earlier this month during the Veterans Day Parade in Marysville.
Special "Fill-the-Humvee" gift drives are scheduled later this month and during the first week of December.
It's the third straight year that Marysville officers will help a local family struggling through tough times. The program sparked minor controversy its first year when the department selected a family from Yuba City to help instead of one from Marysville.
Now, only Marysville families are eligible for the Police Department-sponsored program.
In addition to the Police Department, county library and City Hall, several local businesses are also participating as drop-off locations for donated presents. Gifts should not be wrapped.
"Some of the donations we need assistance with are warm winter clothing for youth and adults, toys and blankets," Sachs said.
The deadline to nominate local families is 5 p.m. Dec. 7. Gift donations will be accepted until 5 p.m. Dec. 14.
