Business Briefs: Vilsack set as guest speaker at Almond Conference
Workshops, marketing presentations and research updates are part of the three-day 40th Almond Conference slated Tuesday to Thursday at the Sacramento Convention Center in Sacramento.
US Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack is the guest speaker.
The event, presented by the Almond Board of California, ends with a gala dinner and entertainment on Thursday.

Ampla Health medical office extending day
Ampla Health in Yuba City will extend its hours of operation effective on Jan 2.
As of that date, the medical office, located at 1000 Sutter St., Yuba City, will be open from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Friday.

Sutter grower finishes ag leadership course
Tara Brocker, a rice farmer in Nicolaus, is among 10 California Farm Bureau members who completed the California Farm Bureau Federation Leadership program for 2012.
The class of 2012 graduated during the federation's 94th annual meeting held earlier this month in Pasadena.
The program included specialized training in leadership skills, current affairs and how the Farm Bureau operates.
Trainees traveled to the San Joaquin Valley and Texas to talk to family farmers and ranchers and to the state and national capitals to meet and discuss issues with government leaders.
Yuba City Goodwill store at new location
The Yuba City Goodwill Industries store celebrated its relocation to a new address Thursday with a grand opening.
Goodwill Industries of Sacramento Valley and Northern Nevada moved the store to 1242 Colusa Ave., Yuba City.
Hours are 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday.
Money raised at Goodwill Industries' various sites fund job training and vocational access programs for persons with special needs.
Butte County Farm Bureau wins innovator prize
The Butte County Farm Bureau received the Innovator Award during the California Farm Bureau Federation annual meeting Dec. 3 in Pasadena.
The local bureau was noted for its membership outreach luncheon that raised more than $4,500 for the Farm Bureau Fund to Protect the Family Farm.
It also received the President's Program of the Year award for outstanding programs within membership categories.
Mid-Valley bureaus that also earned awards during the meeting were Colusa and Yuba-Sutter with County Activities of Excellence Awards.
Sutter Surgical Hospital North Valley honored
Sutter Surgical Hospital North Valley received the 2012 Summit Award by Press Ganey Associates Inc.
The Yuba City hospital was one of 114 organizations to receive the award this year.
The award recognizes top-performing facilitates that sustain the highest levels of patient satisfaction performance for three consecutive years.
Loan specialists join Sutter Community Bank
Two new loan specialists, Nancy Santana and Diana Smith, have joined Sutter Community Bank.
Santana has 19 years of banking and loan experience, including 11 years at Feather River State Bank and eight years at Gold Country.
A third-generation Sutter County native, she is active in the community and received the Rookie of the Year award as an ambassador for the Yuba-Sutter Chamber of Commerce.
Smith has 22 years of banking and loan experience, including 12 years at Butte Community Bank and two years at Golden Valley Bank.
The bank is located at the corner of Plumas Street and Forbes Avenue in downtown Yuba City.
