Joe Grinnell

Age: 57.

Family: Girlfriend, Sheila; four children, Jessi, Joey, Jami and Jake; five grandchildren.

Residence: Yuba City.

Occupation: Executive director, CEO and pastor of Twin Cities Rescue Mission in Marysville. I have been involved in homeless shelter ministry for 16 years.

What is your favorite part of the job? I love to preach the gospel and love to see the men's lives become productive.

Hobbies, interests: Four-wheel driving.

Where do you get your news? Appeal-Democrat and FOX TV news.

What brought you to the Yuba-Sutter area? About 23 years ago, I just really got tired of the crowds of Southern California and wanted to go north. I am a plasterer and heard there was a lot of work in the area.

What do you like about the area? We're centrally located to neat places. Also, because of my work.

Where would you like to retire to someday? Lake Tahoe or Fort Bragg.

What is the closest you've been to a famous person? I plastered the homes of Don Rickles and Cheryl Ladd in Southern California.

What would you do with a million dollars? Tithe 10 percent to the church. Then go to Hawaii and take about a month to think about what I'm going to do with the money.

Favorite sports team: Seattle Seahawks.

Who has had a strong influence in your life? General contractor Bob Farley. To me, he is a true example of a Christian man. He is an example of a man who is giving and loving.

Favorite memory? Going to the horse races with my father, at Santa Anita and Hollywood Park.

What would you like to see different in the community? We need a women's homeless shelter.

What is your pet peeve? People being critical of other people when they don't understand their suffering and people that blame their lives on others without having to deal with their own addictions or issues.

What do you like about yourself? I like people and building and establishing relationships.

What did you want to be when you were a kid? A plasterer, like my dad.

Favorite book: "Pilgrim's Progress."
