Three cheers letter: Thanks to all who aided with house fire
A fire broke out Sept. 3 at a duplex at Hammonton-Smartville Road and Montclair Avenue.
I spotted the fire which appeared to be coming from the backyard of one of the duplexes.
The fire was traveling fast and starting to travel up trees and along my grandmother's fence which separates her property from the property that was on fire.
We called 911, and within seconds, several of our neighbors came to our rescue. Without hesitation, they started hooking up hoses and clearing debris.
We had five hoses going from the time the fire started until the last flame was put out. These kind people saved our home. Our neighbors battled the fire behind the scenes. The way the fire was spreading, there is no doubt that my grandmother's home would have burned.
We want to thank our neighbors for their kind, selfless acts. They worked tirelessly, never stopping, to ensure that our home was out of danger. These people are true heroes.
Thanks to Ken Stokes, Rocky Wagoner, Tim Kenyon, Vanessa Miller, Millena Hall, Lori Austin and many others.
Our deepest sympathies go out to the families who lost their homes.
